Thang Ta - The Dancing Warrior - Saturdays 11:30am to 12:30pm

Thang-Ta (stands for sword and spear) is one of the few martial arts that has survived as a complete comprehensive system partly because of the geographic isolation of Manipur "the jewelled land" where it comes from. Besides involving constant jumping, rolling, and extraordinary agility and flexibility it also has a spiritual and ritualistic aspects to this art form that employs breath control and mental focus. The ultimate goal of this martial art is to engage the inner energy source called "teeing" (in the local language) or "prana" in sanskrit. Khilton Nongmaithen of Manipur teaching outside of India is a rare gift to the Washington Metro area.
