This camp is especially designed for children who have a passion for dance. This deftly crafted program in Kuchipudi dance and related arts is to make dancers expand and grow on many levels. For the physical aspect of dance, yoga, martial arts (Thang-Ta), Adavus (movement drills), Kuchipudi dance repertoire and choregraphy is offered that lets each dancer move forward at their individaul pace scaling the hieghts to cover the five level syllabus created by the institute. Other related activities include theater, make up, mask making, painting, and articulation of mnemonics, beadwork and music.
To inculate deeper thought dancers are given broad brush strokes of dance history with glimpses of the Natya Shastra - a 2nd century BC book on dramaturgy written in India. The Natya Shastra gives us the cosmic dimension of dance and some aesthetics that mark the Indian dance culture as opposed to the western dance attitudes. The relationship of poetry, mythology and philosophy are discussed in camp. Dr. Judy Lynn Hanna teaches dancers to encourage an inquiring mind to look at all dance forms as expression of an enriching human society. Dancers are encouraged to explore inner spaces.
Plato has identified inspiration as the essence of art and Indian philosophers call it "rasa" expeirencing a state of bliss through art.
